They hashed out the details for Will's visit over text. Mostly what time his flight would be in and where he would be staying, and also where they should meet. Since Will is basically here to investigate (okay, while also seeing his younger brother, of course), the Blackwell campus seems the best option. Warren figures after a day of traveling, however, Will is gonna be hungry. He picks up some food to go from the Two Whales Diner, a place they've eaten at together a time or two before when Will has visited. It's classic diner fare and Warren settles on breakfast foods for himself — pancakes, eggs, sausage. He makes sure to get Will's order via text before picking it up.
At their meeting time at around 5pm, Warren's sitting on the hood of his car in the school parking lot with the food containers sitting beside him, wanting to actually see his brother the minute he pulls in. It's been a rough week, so he really is very much looking forward to seeing Will.
As he waits, he notices Max and Chloe pull into the parking lot in Chloe's beat up old truck, and winces as the older teen does a terrible parking job over two spaces. Through the still near-evening air, he can hear Max scolding her and Chloe groaning before she ultimately fixes the parking job, and he finds himself grinning.
The girls hop out of the truck and Warren immediately waves to them. "Yo, Max! Chloe!"
Chloe is still new to him, though he vaguely remembers her being around the very first year he was in Blackwell, when he was 12. She would have been 16 at the time, and she was kinda there one day and then gone the next, apparently booted out of the school entirely, for... something. Drug possession, maybe? Probably. That's a super common thing in this school. So much so, it always surprises him when the faculty even bothers to do anything about it.
The girls make a detour from heading towards the dorms to say hi to him.
"Hey, Warren. You said your brother was flying in today, right?" Max asks.
"Yup. Just waiting on him. He got a rental car and should be here any minute now. Made sure to pick up grub for us too." He points at the containers.
Chloe grins. "Two Whales? You know my mom works there, right?"
"No way! I go there all the time. Come to think of it I think I've seen you there sometimes. What's her name?"
"Joyce."
"Oh, she's super nice."
Chloe snorts. "Yeah. She'd be better if she wasn't married to the stepdouche, though."
Warren looks at her quizzically but she's too busy pulling a box of cigarettes out of her jacket pocket to answer, so he shoots his confused look at Max instead.
"David Madsen." She fills him in. "The militant security asshole here at Blackwell?"
Warren whistles low. "Oh. Geez. My condolences, Chloe. That guy is a paranoid asswipe."
"Word," Chloe agrees as she lights up.
Max looks at her sidelong. "Get it out of your system now, Chloe, because you're definitely not going to be smoking in my dorm room."
"Yes, ma'am. Isn't she hot when she's bossy?" This question Chloe, wildly, directs at Warren, who instantly goes red, even as Max groans and lightly shoves her friend (girlfriend? Warren's still unclear on this) in the arm. Chloe just laughs, apparently finding delight in lightly teasing Warren.
Looking away, embarrassed, Warren finally notices the make of car that Will said he'd be driving rolling into the parking lot, and feels a rush of relief. And then quickly also nerves. His eyes snap to the wild, punk-rock, blue-haired Chloe, smoking a cigarette there right next to him in a no-smoking parking lot.
